January 21

Hey there Internets!

It is Friday and time for FFwD.

Only I didn’t make it.

Shocking I know, but even more shocking when I reveal that it is a chocolate mousse cake.

Good for me, and bad for me is that the girl has been bitten by the domestic bug.

She has baked almost every day, and I don’t need any more sweet in the house.

Have a great Friday y’all.

orange zest_sugar

About 6 years or so ago, I met a wonderful lady on the Donna Young Home school forums named Barbara-Sue.

Barbara-Sue moved down south a couple of years ago, and one day while we were talking on the phone, she began to tell me about the orange groves that were chopped down to make room for suburbia.

She told me that there are still mature orange trees in people’s back yards and some of the people leave bags of oranges on the side of the road and charge $1 for them on the honor system.

Aaaaaaaand that these oranges are so juicy that when you eat them the juice runs down your arm and drips off your elbows.

I expressed an interest in such an orange.

She sends me some every year for Christmas.

Superman ate 94% of them…sigh…

But I saved a couple to make this wonderful TWD recipe of Lemon Orange Poppy Seed Muffins.

Poppy seeds, you go rancid so fast….you are dead to me.

This is such a great recipe. The muffins are moist and tender, but have a distinct scone flavor too.

You also need to save some juice to make the glaze.

But the leftover juice tempted me.

I drank it straight out of the bowl and had to get another orange to make the glaze.

Oh…just so fabulous.

If you’d like to make Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins, then go check out Betsy’s blog. She has the recipe.

Word of caution…if you get poppy seeds, make sure that you use them right away and not leave them in your cupboard for over a year.

Hey Internet!

It is Monday and I am nosy.

  1. What was the most recent thing to go past its expiration date in your pantry?
  2. When does your excitement about the new year usually expire?
  3. What valued possession is on the verge of expiration?
  4. When does your driver’s license expire?
  5. What subscription/membership/permit/policy/dated document would you allow to expire next without renewing it?

1.  Poppy seeds expired a long time ago in my pantry but I just figured it out yesterday.   oopsie poopsie

2.  My excitement over the new year expires on Jan. 2.

3.  Nothing that I know of is about to expire.

4.  In 3 years.

5.  I don’t have any….I don’t think….and if I let it expire, it must not have been important.

How about you?

I am thankful.

And I want to share.

I am thankful for…

♥  Comfy clothes

♥  Orange porch neighbor man who all last week snow blew my driveway and sidewalk

♥  My girl~~the shoe queen~~ who went shoe shopping with me.   I hate shoes.   I love to be barefooted, and she helped pick out a lovely and more importantly comfortable pair of shoes to wear to work.

♥  Fruit Loops

I have a job.

It is easy peasy.

I sit in front of a computer and talk on the phone all day.

Yay! me!

But I miss home.

I miss my comfy clothes.

I miss going to the loo any time I need to.

I miss petting my dog.

I miss my girl.

I miss home.

Gnocchi à la Parisienne

Egg pasta in white sauce with cheese.

I had never heard of gnocchi until last year when I watched an episode of House.

I thought it was some fancy schmancy, long drawn out process but I was wrong.

The gnocchi mixes up in less than 2 minutes, but it does take some time to boil it.

The white sauce takes about 1o minutes and then you have baking time.

It tastes fabulous.

Just fabulous.

Paris, you have not let me down.

Neither have you Dorie.
