Monday, in my boredom, I decided to go outside and try to capture pictures of the hummingbird that frequents my feeder. I love hummingbirds.
This was the closest shot of got of him. Don’t see him? Neither do I, but the clouds were pretty. And soothing. And not the hummingbird.
So, I decided that if I couldn’t get a shot of the hummingbird that I needed something more stationary to photograph.
Enter the bumble bee, lovingly pollinating my lavender.
I took over 20 pictures of these stupid bumble bees, and all that came out was this one.
And this one.
Look hard, he is there. These things are almost as quick as the hummingbird, which made me rethink the subjects I am photographing.
This one sat still for me for over an hour.
She is much more my speed.
Very lovely portrait. Such beautiful eyes.
It’s an act of patience to photograph something like a bumble bee or a hummingbird. I just stand still and keep shooting….say a flower or something…waiting patiently for the bee to get to the flower. Then I shoot away. OK, I’m the Queen of the Crop, so then I crop the photo very tight, so all I have is the single flower and the bee. Cropping is my best friend.
What kind of camera do you use? It produces really clear shots.

I use a Nikon D40x. I was using my 50mm lens.
what a pretty girl! and i love the clouds and that blue sky.
Your daughter has such beautiful eyes. And what a doll to sit for you.
Your darling girl is so lovely that I can’t imagine why you’re wasting any time on the hummingbirds or the bees.
I love the clouds. When we have such clouds they’re usually so high that it’s hard to take their picture…they are so very soothing and calming.
i love the picture of her especially. She looks so mellow and relaxed:)
All your pictures of God’s creation are beautiful. Especially the last one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous photos!!
