November 23

Black Friday.   I don’t participate.   To many crowds, to many horror stories of hateful women, and all that getting up way to early!  Nope.  I value my sanity way to much, and for those of you questioning my sanity, it is there…somewhere, I think.

So, my burning question for the day is do you?   Do you sacrifice your sanity for the stupendous sales on Black Friday?  Do you crawl out of bed at an ungodly hour to save $10?  Do you wear your jammies to the store as my hair stylist does?  Did you get good deals today?  Share them, I need to know if all this getting up early, standing in lines most of the day, and fighting off  53 other women is worth it.

  1. I am always tempted by the ads but never enough to actually go do it. I am happy to report that I was able to get 2 gifts for the kids from Stuffmart’s Black Friday ad online. And I didn’t even have to get up and go. Shipping was reasonable. I get to stay home and relax. Perfect.

  2. The Retailer’s Prayer

Our Retailer, Who art in heaven
    Hallowed be Thy Sales;
    Thy kingdom come,
    Thy will be done,
at the mall as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily coupons,
    and forgive us our frugality,
as we forgive those hardcore shoppers who get there
before us; and lead us not into debt on Black Friday,
but deliver us our online purchases before the 15th
    of December. Amen.

  3. Just got back as a matter of fact! Andra came and gently shook my shoulder saying “Mom. it’s 2:15 are you ready to get up and get ready to go?” I mumbled something crazy like…yes. We then got our shower, did our hair and makeup got dressed and headed down the road to JCPenney to get our traditional’snow globe’. We then headed for Elder Beerman to get the doorbusters your sister was looking for.

BTW I think I saw your beautician!

I go for the fun and excitement! Of course I’m not usually looking for some must have toy or game for kids (that’s ususally where the hateful women come into play.) The lines are long, but I don’t care. I just smile and enjoy the time…Oh yes and breakfast at Sbarro’s is yummy too:)

  4. Welcome back. I’m sure you had a wonderful holiday with your family. 😀 As for shopping after Thanksgiving (or any other big shopping day), I don’t do it, I never have, and I have no plans in the future. I would think that NOTHING would be worth it. Thank you for asking. 😉

  5. Nope. I stay home where it’s warm and cozy. I’m already about done with my shopping anyway and should I feel the urge to shop, I let my mouse do the clicking and shop online. 😉 – Traci

  6. Good day to you CC! I don’t mind getting up in the wee hours for something, but I usually don’t do black Friday. I would if I had a plan, but during the past few years, I have been too preoccupied with other things.

  7. No way! I wouldn’t get up at 2 am for even 50% off. I do a lot of shopping online. It’s the best. We got packages in the mail all December! Christmas everyday. We live 30 min. fron the closest store. Forty min. to an hour to a mall. I’ll be shopping off and on all day from the comfy chair at my desk!

  8. Well, I didn’t get up at an indecent hour. I left home at 9:30 and all I really wanted was a table and stools from BigLots, but apparently mine didn’t carry them period. And I had a 20% off coupon to boot. Would have cost me $40 instead of $50. Gah. 🙂

Then I went to CVS and spent $5.35, saved over $8 and got $11 back in ECBs. There was like 3 other customers in the entire store! 🙂

Target was the worse, but I didn’t get shoved, trampled on, or carts driven into my ankles. I got some winter clothes for me, a few things for hubby and some candles. I looked at their table and chairs too, but it was well over $200. I can wait. I can hunt for a better deal. 🙂

  9. Yep I went. I’ll blog about it but I’ll tell you what I won’t post in my blog – I bought one of my own presents from hubby, a new digital camera for half of what the one I was looking at would have cost. I can’t wait to get it (I don’t know if I’ll get it for Christmas or my birthday that’ll be up to him) then I’ll be able to take some great pictures to share with all my friends.

The stores up here, or at least my local ones, aren’t near the battle zones that you hear about in the news. I had people appologize for being in my way before I had a chance to say excuse me. People were helping one another find items on sale either in the flyer or on the signs. It really wasn’t a bad experience at all.

  10. I stayed home this year. We have done it before and gotten good deals and had lots of fun. I am getting older and hopefully wiser. Had a great time yesterday. It sure was nice to have everyone together. I missed Aunt Sandy though. I am still not hungry!!!!!!!!

  11. Yes, I did participate in Black Friday.
Yes, I got up very early.
Yes, I got really great deals.
No, I did not wear PJs.
No, I did not encounter any rotten people.
No, I did have have any trouble at all.

  12. I have been reading your blog for quite sometime and I just have to say I really enjoy your posts! My mom is Sheri BTW. 😛

I was going to go out for the dreaded shopping today but I changed my mind at 4am when the alarm on my phone went off. I hit the snooze button and rolled back over. Had I not been battling a cold I may have got out of bed. There were some great deals on some toys I have had my eye on for my boys but it just wasn’t happening this year. I have gone out in the past few years and enjoyed it but there are always those pushy, loud and grumpy people around to spoil your day! 🙂

  13. No I have never participated in black friday. I have always wanted to but never have the money until afterwards…. and the idea of getting up that early in the morning to shop and be in all that mess doesn’t exactly excite me!! every year I say next year I will set aside some money and be able to go and try it and I never do it…lol!!

  14. Absolutely not…. I do not get up early to go shopping…..
I slept in and wen to bake cookies with my friend…. my new Black Friday tradition. We baked 4 batches of cookies and then the water company turned off the water to repair a broken water main, so we had to stop…. we’ll bake more tomorrow.

But I know that you soooooo love to get up early. I just don’t understand….giggle.

  15. Not only do I avoid the mall on Black Friday, I avoid it all month long! I shop almost exclusively online. The cool thing is, if you look around you can find tax-free, free shipping and get a better deal anyway. (Not to mention the saved gas money!)
