May 19

I miss living in the country. I miss the quietness, the stillness of the air. There is no children shrieking at 9:00 when I am in bed, trying to sleep. Where are those kids parents anyway??? No stupid 20 year old males flying up the street doing 50~~at least~~ making as much noise and show as possible. There is no country smells in town. No manure, no sweet aroma of country flowers. There is no rustling of trees and no calmness in town. How I miss the country.

When we lived out in the middle of nowhere, where we had to pipe in sunlight, we had a hummingbird feeder. There were 4-8 birds that frequented it. The husband liked them, till one fateful day when he wore a very loud, very bright Hawaiian shirt. Those precious birds went nuts thinking he was a new flower to drink….he was dive bombed. Did we feel sorry for the poor man? uhhhhhhh after we were finished wiping the tears from our eyes from laughter, we sorta, kinda did….maybe.biggrin.gif

We have lived in town now for about 4ยฝ years, and I haven’t mentioned a hummingbird feeder……till now. I didn’t mention anything, I just bought one. It had been in the house for almost a month before the husband found it. He wasn’t pleased. He asked “Are you trying to kill me?” So, it is out. I don’t think there is another one on our block.

We have a pair that visit. The male comes more often. The female is very skittish, but oh so lovely.

Meet Squeaker. I named him that because he squeaks before he drinks. The boy wanted to name him Ruby, but that is to predictable, and boring.

I love this picture. I am totally amazed that the boy was able to get this one, seeing as he was about 3 feet away, and our camera is….well… not the best of digital ones.

Hummingbirds are my favorite bird. They can fly backwards, and I think that is totally cool!

Do you have a favorite bird?

  1. I love watching birds. Everyday at lunch I have the opportunity to watch hummingbirds, finches, oreales, cardinals, blue birds, and many more. Thier individual personalities are fascinating. I’m not sure I have a favorite.

  2. What an awesome picture!! My father in law has a feeder and he has about 6 or 8 of them at any given time. They are beautiful. I have never lived in the country, and I thought I never had any desire too. But as get older, and things change I think I would love it. I would love to have a place in the country away from everything. A place where the boys could get out and explore without having to go to the park to do it. I think I wouldn’t mind homesteading.. ofcourse I know I still need certain “city” things, like my computer!!! LOL!!!

  3. My fav bird is the Peregrine Falcon……not only because it looks cool and it eats things but it also has the fastest diving speed of all the predatory birds…..up to 212-215 mph!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  4. That is so funny about your husband being confused for a hummingbird drive-through. ๐Ÿ˜†

I don’t think I have a favorite bird. Yesterday, I heard a hawk call, then I saw it flying over the woods, that was pretty awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I love watching hummingbirds. My parents have a feeder. I have some seed feeders and we have seen many birds this spring. It has been very cool.

  6. I really love hummingbirds. They are just so neat!

I also love to see cardinals and blue jays.

Any bird is great as long as it’s not landing on my head! LOL! (Remember my porch incident?) LOL!

  7. I have a few favorites, but my most favorite is the Hummingbird, infact I drew one and liked it so much that I had it tattooed on me ๐Ÿ™‚ . I love Chickadees, they are the cutest little chubby birds. A couple years ago I saw an Indigo Bunting at my feeder…it was the most beautiful purplish blue color I have ever seen on a bird; I always watch for him to come back, but so far no luck.

  8. I love the pictures….but I don’t think anything could top that story of the attacking birds.

Reminded me of Hitchcock’s “The Birds”……yes…I would be wiping my eyes….That is funny…:)
