Archive for March 2010
Sunday we spent the day with the parents.
We went over so that Superman and the boy could dress up like Roman soldiers and scare the elderly and children half out of their wits.
Isn’t he just the cutest?
Today’s TWD is Coconut Tea Cake.
Carmen of Carmen Cooks picked it today and she has the recipe.
I didn’t make it.
I am the only one that would be eating said Tea Cake, and even though I do like coconut, I just don’t want to eat a whole one.
If you want to make it, go check out Carmen’s blog. She will have the recipe up today.
Next week, I’ll have something fabulous!
I love auctions.
I love going and looking at what other people have in their house, and what kind of things that other people think are important.
I love watching other people at an auction and their reaction to the items for sale.
I love listening to the auctioneer, and I love bidding on stuff…the thrill of outbidding someone else.
I know I don’t need this box full of screws and nails, and dust, but someone else is bidding on it, and I. must. have. it. Bidding at an auction is like crack for the thrifty, but it can get out of hand.
We had an auction last week right next door, and I sat in the comfort of my own home and watched it all.
Today I am thankful for …
My mother’s kitchen. It is the heart of her home.
The women in my life.
I have a wee confession, Internet.
My ’40 year old brain syndrome’ has struck again, and I can not remember where I put the girls Easter gift.
Internet. It is March 26…spring already, and it snowed last night.
I’m clinging to Monday, and the sun that shined and the 70º temperatures.
Today is Friday, and I am nosy.
- How many hours’ sleep do you need in order to be at your best, and what’s the minimum you can get on a regular basis and still be functional?
- What’s your favorite sleeping position?
- What was the cause of your most recent difficulty sleeping?
- When you can’t seem to drift off to sleep right away, what are some things you do to bring about sleep?
- When did you last doze off at an inappropriate time or in an inappropriate place?
How many hours’ sleep do you need in order to be at your best, and what’s the minimum you can get on a regular basis and still be functional?
8 hours, and the minimum….8 hours
What’s your favorite sleeping position?
My pillows shaped like this ——> /\ and my arms curled underneath…but I have to steal borrow Superman’s pillow to do so.
What was the cause of your most recent difficulty sleeping?
I have no difficulties sleeping…but the nasty time change doesn’t help.
When you can’t seem to drift off to sleep right away, what are some things you do to bring about sleep?
I sing ‘Jesus Loves Me’ and that generally works every time.
When did you last doze off at an inappropriate time or in an inappropriate place?
Sunday during the sermon.
It was sunny on Monday.
That has been a rare occurrence this year for Pothole, so when the sun does shine, we go soak it up.
Texting while lounging is done.
while reading is also done.
Please note that the police are not there for me.
I’m a good girl.
So last night the girl and I sat watching Desperate Housewives that I had DVR’d.
‘Cause a great mother always lets their daughter’s watch trash like that.
Anyway, in part of this show, the children were selling candy bars for their school.
Their mothers wanted their kids to win for different reasons.
One of the mother’s wanted her girl to win because her daughter has no friends and the winner will get a huge party.
Her thinking was that if her girl won, then she could invite everyone to the party and therefore the girl would have instant friends.
That led me to think about how sad it is that some people think that others can be bought and how the younger you are the easier it is to be bought…and whether or not I could be bought.
Sad to say, I have allowed myself to be ‘bought’ before.
So my question for you is…can you be bought?
Maybe not on moral/religious principles, but small things?
Go out to dinner with someone you really don’t want to spend time with, but hey! they are paying! so you go anyway?
The very first candy bar that I ever remember getting from a grocery store was the Marathon bar.
Do you remember it? It looked like it was braided and it was caramel covered in chocolate.
I haven’t seen any of them in stores in like….forever.
You see, I heart chocolate. But coming in a very close second is caramel.
And today’s TWD is all about caramel.
Specifically Dulce de leche. Which literally translated means ‘sweet of the milk’.
All you have to do is take a can of sweetened condensed milk, put it in your crock pot, cover it with water…at least 2 inches… and cook it on high over night.
Voila~dulce de leche.
You can spread it on graham crackers, top ice cream, dip Oreo’s in it, eat it straight from the can with a spoon, or make today’s TWD that Jodie of Beansy Loves Cake picked for us.
Dulce de leche Duos.
These are fan.tastic!
I used heaping teaspoonfuls as directed, but as you can see…that was just to much.
So I made them smaller.
Not only is there dulce de leche in the cookies, but then you take some and spread it on the bottom of one.
And because I’m on a Nutella kick, I spread some on the bottom of the other half and sandwich them together.
Because you just can’t have enough Nutella.
Oh! my! goodness!
These cookies have everything that I love.
Butter, caramel, chocolate.
If you want to make some fabulous cookies, go grab the recipe from Jodie’s blog. It should be up sometime today.
Have you ever been hungry but you are not sure what you want to eat?
You open up the cupboards, and nothing speaks to you.
You go to the fridge, open it up and stand there wishing something that will grow between the 4½ dozen eggs, rice milk and leftover pork broth?
Last night was one of those times for me, but I finally found something that hit the spot.
Salty and sweet.
The perfect combo.
But the best part is, since I’m the only one that eats the Nutella….I can double dip.
Happy Spring, Internet.
I heart Spring.
Today I am thankful for …
- Superman picking up dog poo
- Superman pulling weeds and cleaning the junk out of my gardens
- Time spent with the girl transplanting some daffodils and hyacinth
- Reese cup eggs
- The boy liking his new job
What are you thankful for today?
Hey Internet, it is Friday and I am nosy.
How about giving an answer (thoughtful, sarcastic, or whatever) to these waaaay overused questions.
- “Come here often?”
- “What’s new?”
- “[insert weather] enough for ya?”
- “How’s it hangin?”
- “How ’bout them [insert sports team]?”
1. Yes, I come here every day.
2. Laundry was hung outside yesterday for the first time this year……Yahooooooooo!
3. Sunny enough for me? Nope!
4. I abhor this question!
5. And I don’t do sports…….waste of time.
I have tried and tried to take pictures of Chloe.
But she hates to have her picture taken.
Evey time she hears the click of the camera, she hides her head and walks away.
Miraculously I was able to get this one.
But her face says it all.
Happy St. Patrick’s day.
Who all is wearing green?
I’m still in pink.
Apologies to my Irish roots.
Today’s TWD is a Soft Chocolate Raspberry Tart, picked by Rachelle of Mommy? I’m Hungry.
I didn’t make it.
Did you know that raspberries~~out of season~~are ridiculously expensive…if you can find them?
I almost made it by putting a layer of caramel, then salted peanuts, then the chocolate but honestly…I just didn’t have the motivation to do so.
I will be here with next weeks choice.
I know you are strapped for cash, so I have come up with an idea to save you some money.
It would have saved you thousands of dollars on paper, ink envelopes and postage.
I want my money back
Happy Pi day.
Pi…you know 3.14.
Eat some pie today in honor of Archimedes who discovered pi.
Today I am thankful for…
- The fact that God is in control
- Fresh spring air
- The girl’s friends who love to come over
- Pie. Especially my mom’s apple crumb pie
PS. Now I am thankful that when my son called at 11:30 and asked us to meet him at the ER, he only had to have 2 stitches in his finger.
Happy Friday, Internet.
I am nosy today…well every day actually, but today is the day that I ask all sorts of ridiculous questions and you answer them.
- When was the last time you had a serious deadline to make, and did you make it?
- Do you generally plan for deadlines, or are they more likely to sneak up on you until you’re frantic?
- When did you last set a deadline for someone else, and did that person make it?
- How flexible and understanding are you when it comes to other people meeting your deadlines?
- What were the circumstances the last time you hung up on someone in the middle of a phone call, or the last time someone hung up on you in the middle of a phone call?
When was the last time you had a serious deadline to make, and did you make it?
Uhhh…..when I purchased my latest vehicle and still have yet to transfer the tags over…oopsie poopsie.
Do you generally plan for deadlines, or are they more likely to sneak up on you until you’re frantic?
Yep. I’m a planner….except for the previous question.
When did you last set a deadline for someone else, and did that person make it?
Superman….the tub STILL isn’t caulked.
How flexible and understanding are you when it comes to other people meeting your deadlines?
It really depends. If that person just sits around and is lazy, then I am not understanding at. all. If they are busy and just can’t get to it, then I am much more understanding.
What were the circumstances the last time you hung up on someone in the middle of a phone call, or the last time someone hung up on you in the middle of a phone call?
Sister hung up on me the other day, but that is because her phone died.
You know it is going to be ‘one of those days’ when…..
It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood A beautiful day for a neighbor Would you be mine Could you be mine
So, let's make the most of this beautiful day Since we're together we might as well say Would you be mine, could you be mine Won't you be my neighbor Won't you please, won't you please Please won't you be my neighbor .
