McDonalds.

McDonalds owned 2 years of my life. I first began working at a McDonalds in Oklahoma City. It was a huge one. I was in college at that time, and I loved it. Then when I moved back to Farmington, Missouri, I worked at that one too. My favorite job at McDonalds was working the drive through. Whenever the management wasn’t there, we would eat McNuggets out of the bin, and handfulls of french fries.

Whenever my dad came through, he would always order a caramel sundae. I would put 3 squirts of caramel on it and dumped the nuts on. I think he loved it.

I absolutely abhorred mopping the floor. It was futile. There was so much grease and gunk and nasty on the floor, you just schmeared it everywhere. blech!

So, my burning question for the day is what was your first job?

My very first job was working at Park Shalimar Beauty Salon. I worked there until I took my State Board and then after I received my license, I worked there as well.

My first job was working at Krystal’s. :D That was where I decided to see how much ketchup was in one of those little tubes. I jumped on it. There is a lot of ketchup in there!

My favorite job was selling men’s underwear at Montgomery Wards. Ok, I also sold shirts and ties. :D

  3. Annie Says:

My first “real” job was working as a car hop at Sonic in Flat River, MO.
Fortunately, we didn’t have to wear roller skates. :)

  4. Pip Says:

My first job is the one I still do…working in a wastewater lab. I began as a college intern, got hired on full time and 15 1/2 years later, I”m still here. I’ve got a clock that counts down the hours until I can retire. (14 years and 6 months to go as of today.)

Hey! Your more than half way there.

  5. fourhisglory Says:

I worked at Hardees which is like McDonalds. I only worked there for the summer and hated it. I remember those greasy floors. So disgusting. To this day I still can’t eat in that restaurant.

  6. praisesinger Says:

My 1st job was at Pizza Hut as a waitress back in 1986. I was 16 years old. My boyfriend at the time got me my job there and then I ended up meeting Robert who worked there in the summer, we started dating, got married and the rest is history! I worked there off and on for 8 years. I still remember when they’d play a song on the jukebox by Motley Crue called “Girls Girls Girls” and I’d be walking to the beat. LOL I think of that everytime I hear that song.

  7. Melanie Says:

My first job was as a page in the children’s section of the public library. I loved that job. :)

  8. Mrs Says:

Arby’s. We had to watch a movie to show how the beef was made. And I bet you thought it came straight off the cow.

  9. Patty Hall Says:

My first job was working at a little ice cream shop!! It was great-until a bus from one of the local camps would pull up. And it was the local Sunday-night-after-church meeting place.
I could eat any ice cream for free. My favorite was hot fudge blueberry sundae. Oh My!!! Unfortunately it’s no longer in business and the other ice cream shops that have opened are no where close to as good as “Custards Last Stand”.

I had a few insignificant self-employment type jobs when I was a youth from ages 12-16, but my first real job with steady income was making vests for suits at a local suit manufacturer.

No wonder you are so precise with your quilts. I can totally see you doing this!

  11. Bobbie Says:

My first job was a paper route. My first job at 16 was a receptionist at OIC through JTPA. It was fun and hard and the people were nice enough. My first grown up job lol as an adult was Meijer. But, working and having a baby and going to school. I was always tired.

  12. Chrystal Says:

My first summer job was working at Sylvan Learning Center with my aunt. My first real job was working at the daycare in Germany. I worked mostly in the toddler room, but had the chance to float around to other rooms as well. I loved it. It was a great job and I miss it!

  13. Mom23b's Says:

UGH… JC Penney’s…. the children’s dept. I worked on and off at our store all throughout high school. I would quit for football season and come back to work the Christmas holidays and in the Spring. Eventually I ended my tenure there working in the Lingerie Dept! There’s nothing quite like hanging up clothes for minimum wage – hours upon hours!

I guess I should be grateful, my parents wouldn’t let me work in fast food because it would interfere with going to church on Sunday morning/nights, and Wednesdays – LOL – my how times have changed!

  14. My first jobs were working on the Air Force base in the summer & winter Hire programs. I worked for CE (civil engineering) mowing lawns & various other chores. I worked for the Dining Hall one summer & winter (this was my favorite job). At the dining hall I could eat all my meals….and they were better than whatever mom was making at home! I also did LOTS of babysitting.
My first “real” job was working at Burger King…I only lasted a month!

  15. Sheri Says:

I worked a summer at a McDonald’s with my high school BFF. That was my 2nd job. My first job was working in a frozen yogurt shop in the big mall. This was way before frozen yogurt was common and people were quite skeptical….took a little salesmanship to get people to try it. It was so much better than the frozen yogurt that is out there now.

  16. Mecky Says:

I did clean a beauty salon for a few weeks on weekends when I was 15. The place was filthy and I was only paid 5.00 for the whole day. I didn’t stay with that, needless to say.
But I would say my first job was working at Joyland, an amusement park. That was a blast! I worked games, since that was what they put most girls on. Several of us kids became good friends and went to movies and such after work. I worked the next summer there, also.
I didn’t realize it back then, but that park was a big part of Wichita’s history! It is closed now. It stayed open long enough for my kids to go a few times.

Where did you go to college in OK City? My DD will be going to school in that area.

    Mid-America Bible College

  17. Mom Says:

I learned great respect at my first job as a nurses aide in a nursing home! I could only hack it for four months. Then I worked at a Ramada Inn in the kitchen. I made the fancy platters for banguets. And all that fun stuff!

  21. Jennie Says:

I too worked at McDonald’s for a bit in college and I worked mostly drive-thru. Only I was always impressed with the clean-up at night and how clean we got everything! Hmmm. ;) My first job was a bus-girl at a Greek diner and the owner came on to me in the basement when I was getting cans of food. Yeeks.

  22. Elaine Says:

Other than babysitting my first job was working at the school cafeteria during lunch from 8-12 grades. It was an interesting experience and to be honest I enjoyed it. I didn’t have to mop any floors or do any dishes. My job was to sell lunches to the kids at school. I worked the ala carte window and met a lot of school mates that I didn’t know.

Now off to read about everyone else, especially “June”

  23. Aunt Cindy Says:

My first job was working at a dry cleaners for Ethel Kite. I would bag the clothes and ticket them. Then I would wait on customers ( who,by the way, aren’t always right!!). Then I quit there and went on to be a nurse technician for the next 25 years. Then after a debilitating illness that lasted 7 years,(before the Lord healed me)I ended up teaching pre-K. Been there for 7 years!!

  24. Mona Says:

My first job was when I was 12..my Mom hired me out to a Motel to do chamber maid..oh How I hated it..i also had to ride 6 miles to work and back on my bike…Oh My..talk about child labor!! warm hugs from Vermont

  25. jodysgirl94 Says:

My first job was baby-sitting 2 kids. I did this for a summer and a half.

My first public job was working in a small truck-stop-type place. I cooked and cleaned. I hated it!

  26. Lisa Says:

My first job was at a Dairy Queen. I was most proud of my mastery of the curli-que on top of the ice cream cones! It is an art form, you know! ;) Oh, and we would make little sundaes, one spoon at time–Yum!

    Love the spoon sundaes…giggle

…Hello, love your blog! I see you at PW’s and happened over here from Donna’s blog…

…My first job was working at a greenhouse & flower shop called, “Down to Earth” and it was located in a beautiful old historic brick building in the old part of town – I loved it there! :o )

    …Blessings… :o )

Hi. I see you over at Donna’s too.

  29. Vee Says:

Why is it that I always want to answer your question?!

My first job was at a hardware store weighing nails and seeds.

  30. heathertopia Says:

My first job was at a privately owned dollar store. On my third day of work I was made manager. By my first month of working I was managing 2 stores and asst. manager of a third. :)

  31. Miz Booshay Says:

My first job was working at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
I lasted one shift. Four hours.

    It was terrible.

I kept the uniform because I was too embarrassed to go back…and never got paid.

  32. Sheri Says:

CC, I hope you don’t mind if I leave a note on your blog…..for someone else. ;)

Mecky…..I know Joyland! The best wooden roller coaster in the midwest…..at least we thought so. We went there with our report cards at the end of the school year.

  33. My first job was in Oklahoma City – I grew up there! I lived there from 1970 to 1986. I worked at Jim Dandy Fried Chicken (59th & South May) for about two years, until it closed down. I loved their chicken and jalepeno chicken & rice. If I could copy that recipe, I would.

How cool is that! I lived there 1985-86.

  34. Annie Says:

Robin, I lived a block away from 59th and S. May in OKC Wow!

  35. Tresses Says:

My first paycheck job (not babysitting) was as a receptionist/telephone operator at the Jewish Community Center in my neighborhood. I had to answer the phone with, “Shalom! Jewish Community Center. How may I help you?” or was it, “…How may I direct your call?” Either way, it was a mouthful! I was 16.

My fast food employment was a few months at Hardee’s after dropping out of college. I mostly worked the drive-thru, but worked some overnights, too. I didn’t mind that. It was quiet, and I got to bake the breakfast cinnamon rolls. :D

  36. bigmama1 Says:

My very first job was at SoundCastle Record Shop, because you know, that’s back when they sold records and also CASSETTE TAPES.

They made me vacuum every night after we closed. I had never vacuumed before in my life. I still have nightmares.

  37. Joyce Says:

My first job was at A&W drive-in. I was 17 when I started, and made .75 cents and hour! But, ooh, a few months later when I turned 18, they had to raise my pay to $1.00 an hour! It sounds so funny now, but I remember then that the younger girls were jealous about my raise ROFL! I loved it though, loved my boss (I think there was a little crush-thingy going there), and I met my hubby’s cousin there, and then later my wonderful hubby through him ~ ~sigh~ ~ (I think this is where Bob Hope sings “Thanks For The Memories”) ;-)

  38. Wendy Says:

My first job was as a car hop at the B & K Root Beer stand in my hometown. It was so cool to be a car hop! I remember that cigarettes were then 50 cents a pack (we sold them along with the Spanish Dogs and Root Beer.) My winter job was at the local grocery store as a cashier. My boss was a man who had no legs. Just about everyone in town called him “Tall Paul” because he walked around on short, stumpy artificial legs which made him about 4 feet tall. Isn’t that awful??
