I’ve been looking around for vanilla beans and finally found them at Fred Meyer – $23 for 2 beans!!! :o

I may just have to send you some money to buy me some and send them up the next time you go on one of your Amish trips to get yours.

I really want to try my hand at this but I just can’t see paying $23 until I’ve at least tried the homemade vanilla first.

No alcohol taste at all. If you look at your bottle of vanilla, you will see that it has alcohol in it, even the imitation vanilla has alcohol.

I leave the beans in the entire time I am using the vanilla. When the vanilla is gone, I generally stick the 2 used sticks into the new bottle with 2 new beans.

Vodka is really the best. Vodka is virtually tasteless, so it really brings the flavor of the vanilla out.
